On The Estrangement of a Grown Child Within the Family

On The Estrangement of a grown child within the Family: Quote Sheri McGregor, MA: “As a loving mother of five, the last thing I ever expected was to have an estranged adult child. When the break occurred, I was left with questions: What happened? Was it my fault? What can I do now?” Sheri, a life coach and author, wrote a book about her experience and formed a website for others suffering from an experience similar to her own:

The estrangement of a child from his or her parents is devastating to any parent but from my experience and all that I’ve read, I would say that the mother is more frequently targeted than the father in a chosen estrangement by a grown child. Divorce also plays a pivotal role in estrangement and disrespect plays a very serious role in parental and step-parental alienation, when one parent chooses to disrespect the other parent. Children then become involved in the play of the attacker and of the victim. Grandparents as well are affected in the removal of grandchildren from their lives.
